DAY 1 at AGIOS NIKOLAOS on SUP – ICF SUP WORLD CUP 2024 – TECHNICAL: A Thrilling Opening Day of Racing

The first day of the AGIOS NIKOLAOS on SUP – ICF SUP WORLD CUP 2024 wrapped up on Friday, September 27th, featuring the exciting Technical event. With a total of 170 participants from 17 different countries, the competition level was exceptionally high.

Technical open MEN

In the first men’s heat, Doukas Phaedon (Greece), Ewer Blue (United Kingdom), Andrii Kraitor (Bulgaria), Jinvresse Boris (France), Majdan Mikolaj (Poland), and Alberti Filippo (Italy) secured their spots in the final.

In the second heat, the Greek athletes Anastasios Tsouris, Nikolaos Malekakis, and Vasilis Samniotis took a commanding lead and advanced to the final alongside Korobov Vadim (Lithuania), Denis Stignei (Romania), and Alexandros Prapas.

Men’s Technical FINAL

In the men’s final, the race had a lot of upheaval with Andrey Kraitor leading the train of athletes in the first round. 

However, after repeated falls he was left behind, and 23-year-old Ewer Blue from the UK seized the opportunity, finishing in 1st place.

Phaedon Doukas, who was in 2nd place during the first lap, couldn’t maintain his position under pressure from Anastasios Tsouris and Ewer Blue, ultimately finishing 3rd. Despite past injuries, Tsouris made a strong comeback, taking 2nd place.

Technical open WOMEN

In the first women’s heat, Alonso Frey Alba from Spain, a world champion in sprint, dominated the race, securing 1st place, with Kyriaki Logotheti following in 2nd after a strong performance. Daria Zaitseva and Eleni Vai also advanced to the final.

In the second heat, Paris Katniss from the USA and Greek athletes Nancy Karaindrou, Maria Panagi, and Katerina Lantzanaki earned their spots in the final.

Women’s Technical Final

In the women’s final, Alonso Frey Alba of Spain, the sprint world champion, proved why she’s a top contender, winning the race effortlessly from the start.

Paris Katniss, who was in 2nd place at the end of the first lap, was overtaken by Kyriaki Logotheti at the penultimate buoy, pushing her to 3rd place. 

Kyriaki Logotheti, a world champion in junior technical, held on to her position to finish 2nd.

Nancy Karaindrou fought hard to challenge Paris Katniss for a spot on the podium but ultimately finished 4th.
